    Post European "High Alpine" Tour

European High Alpine Tour with Edelweiss:

    http://www.edelweissbike.com/en/allT...pine-tour.html

Anyone interested? I know it's very expensive, but I do know that there are few here
on TSB that can afford it.

It something that I have wanted to do for a long time, but for many reasons I could not do so.
The dates that I am thinking about would be September 2014.
    I myself will rent a BMW 1600, and being on that bike I think I could do;
better said, I know I will be able to do the 200 or less miles p/day.
As I said, I have wanted to do this for a long time, and now I have the time and the money,
but it would be so much more fun to do this with some of my TSB family.

It comes down to this, I'm not getting any younger and I fear that due to my back
issues, my riding days may be limited. I would like to do this before my real riding days are over.

That looks like an awesome trip. Mountain passes are very tight and technical, you might consider a lighter bike. I am not one to tell others what to do but you may want to discuss bike choice with one of the tour guides.

Nice!!! I still have more riding to do in North America such as out west, Mexico, parts of Canada I haven't been, and Alaska, If things go my way I'll be ready for tour style rides in Europe within a couple of years =)

I visited the Swiss Alps around Austria and Switzerland without a bike and still loved it

Nice video and I truly respect your desire to go there.

However, even if someone offered to pay my way, give me $5k spending cash and then put a loaded gun to my head,
I still would NOT want to go there.
I would tell them to pull the trigger. Lol!

Currently I have AAA working out the travel arrangements.

Tiph is thinking about going and maybe, just maybe Dave too. But both are long shots.
There are 2 other friends that are considering it as well.
I rather not go alone, but I will do so if no one can join me.
Besides, riding on motorcycles in Europe through the Austrian, Italian and Swiss Alps
with complete strangers, I really won't be alone, will I?

I have only 2 things on my "bucket" list; only 2,
but both will cost me a lot of money and in my mind, both will be worth it.

In a week I will be taking my bike to ACE Performance for its transformation.
I will be starting a thread on it, with updates.

Well, I booked it, and also bought my plane tickets.
I did get the bike that I wanted, which is the BMW 1600 GTL; I never rode a 6-cylinder.

The original date that I wanted "sold out", so my trip will start on September 30th; a wee bit cooler,
but the leaves should be changing, either way I think it will be fun.

    CANCELED!!

I had to cancel the trip.
My back has deteriorated over the last few months,
and in my hearts of hearts, I know that I can not do the trip.
It has gotten to the point where I sometimes need a cane to walk,
    all do to the pain.

I know that my riding can be only short rides,
and unfortunately, my future riding days are limited.
    The meds help, but I hate the feeling of being "drugged";
not a good mix when combined with riding or driving.

Yes, it totally sucks; but Debbie and I will go to Europe another time and
rent a car and do the same route. Hopefully a BMW convertible, just like her BMW!
She can drive and I can enjoy the view.

It won't be the same, but then again, I won't be in excruciating pain either.

Sorry to hear about having to cancel such a trip Tommy. Always keep in mind - if you do go over there, rental bikes are readily available it you decide to take a short jaunt one day (versus committing to a whole tour). Some great places to ride all over Europe, and the distances are much more condensed than here in the States.

Thank your stars you're not that way...turn your back and walk away
Don't even pause and ask them why...turn around and say goodbye

I'm sorry to hear that Tommy. Curious, how long have you had the back pain and was it an accident?

No, no accident, I have degenerative disc disease.
    It's only going to get worse . . .
