Thumbs up Born to be wild? Nev. weighs letting bikers split lanes

RENO — Nevada, the first state to legalize statewide gambling, could soon take a gamble on letting motorcyclists legally drive between two lanes of traffic.

The maneuver, known as lane splitting, is currently illegal in 49 states. It has been unofficially permitted in California for decades, with no law specifically allowing or prohibiting the practice. An attempt to legalize it in Arizona was vetoed by Republican Gov. Jan Brewer in 2010.

Supporters argue that lane splitting reduces the likelihood of a motorcycle hitting a car in front, and vice versa, especially in heavy traffic. Detractors argue lane splitting is inherently dangerous and distracts from other safety issues such as mandatory helmet laws.

Some risk tickets by lane splitting in FL too, not that I would ever do such a thing

Hope it starts passing on all states. Like stated in other threads, the law doesn't let you split lanes when ever you want, but mostly when it is congested.

I'd be worried about an ass fuck pulling over to cut you off just because they are pissed that they are sitting there and you hit them. Who is at fault?

yesterday traffic on McMullen was backed/stopped from curlew to ridgemoore for no good reason and it was hot out. At 15mph I creeped down the shoulder like a common criminal.

No one tried to kill me.
