Be careful...that 600rr will get you into trouble just as quickly as the 750 did if you don't have some control over your right wrist. If you totaled your bike in four days, you might want to think about something a bit more beginner friendly (sv 650, ninja 650r, etc). You got lucky if you high sided and walked away with a few bruises. Might not be so lucky next time. Just my .02. Either way, good luck with the bike search. Ride safe.

+1 there will be plenty of time to pick up a supersport after getting some experience on two wheels with a more friendly sport bike.

I would suggest a SV 650 also. I have 30 years of riding under my belt with some track time and I have more fun on mine than any other bikes I have ridden. People that ride with me will tell you all about it. Triumphchris is one of them. I am thinking of selling mine if you might be interested. It has RaceTech built forks, zx14 shock, full Yosh TRS, PCIII. Custom steering damper adapter w/gsxr damper. It is plenty fast up to 125mph.

ive been saying for YEARS that we should have a tiered licensing system for motorcycles here in the US, like they do in Europe....

Ive seen the bike, it is set up awesomely, and i have seen his face after riding his SV1000 and his SV650, and the smile was so much bigger with the 650..

I started track riding on a 04 ZX-10 and since 07 have been riding a GSXR 600 and i have MORE fun on that bike than i did on the 10....

Now i want to move to a 250 for the track

SV 650 with suspension goodies is a bike that you'll likely never outgrow.

Only real limitation is if you go on a lot of straight speed wot rides with people on 1000's... you just won't keep up with top speed of around 120-125.

For the VAST majority of riders a 600cc bike is MORE than enough. There are some factors that make a 1000cc bike a better choice such as:

Track Day Riders - some tracks really favor the 1000cc bikes (Homestead comes to mind, I've heard recently that PBIR also has a long straight)
Big People - let's face it, if you are 6'4" tall and 260+lbs you need more torque to get moving than I do at 5'8" 170lbs.
People who like passengers - see "Big People"
People who like passngers that 'Sir Mix A Lot' would approve of - see "Big People"

However, if you are average height, average weight, with the occasional average height & weight passenger then a 1000cc bike is a matter of preference more than it is "need."

The BIG problem with 1000's - and the reason I don't have one - is that you can get into a LOT of trouble REALLY quickly with one. I KNOW me well enough to know that I'd be dead in a week on a 1000. My 675's are fantastic in turns, more than capable of keeping up with anything in twisty sections and I really don't need to go over 160mph in a straight line anyway.

I'm 6'1, 250lbs and I did 10K miles on my 250 last year. Half of those were with my wife on longer trips (for example to Cocoa). Don't use your size as an excuse for a bigger bike. The 250 will still get your license taken away on any road in America.

I agree with starting out on a smaller bike. No matter what cc bike you start out with there is one other thing you must have to survive and that's common sence.. Its the same way in skydiving the young guys and girls get out there and instead of learning to control a slow big chute properly they wanna get the smallest fastest chute possible and they eat earth.... Some people just don't listen don't be one of them.

Poppanodoz also makes some good points, and dont let engine size fool you. Yeah if you are trying to keep up with liter bikes or busa's on a bridge ride you wont. But hoenstly, any throttle hero can open up the bike in a staight line and go fast- straight. The corners are where the fun is at. Now with that being said.. As poppa mentioned i have seen kids on 34 horsepower bikes completly smoke guys on bikes running 160 HP at the rear wheel..

Maybe get a 600, and take your time, get some seat time, invest in your riding and do some track days... Its all about skill, not HP

And again, it takes an adult to admit they were at fault, and got over their head, some will come up with lame excuses.....

We all make mistakes, the most important thing is we are all here to learn from it...

I just watched a 12 year old kid this weekend with a Moriwaki 250 4 stroke making under 40 Hp run 1:22 at Jennings and completely embarrassed everyone else on the track. That kid carried so much corner speed that it was ridiculous.
