but she only killed a biker, so who cares, maybe we can blame the biker . . .

Any person that can not judge the speed of an oncoming vehicle should NOT be driving in the first place. PERIOD!!!
    It's called depth perception.

Again, I posted this a few times, back in 1974 in Hudson, FL; a motorcycle "fleeing" a LEO,
    and going almost 100 mph, it was Harley;
had its "right of way" violated by a woman driving a station wagon.
She pulled out in front of him, her car was nearly cut in half.
The motorcyclist was killed, as were 2 of the woman's children.
She was charged with 3 counts of vehicular manslaughter.

Going above the speed limit is illegal, but that in itself does NOT give the right for another driver
to "pull out in front of you" and violate the "right of way" laws!

I'm glad you backed up your above comment with your "when and where" comment.

Saying that a biker has their right of way violated doesn't justify the speed. You may have a parachute on when you jump out of that plane, but when your rights are violated when it doesn't open, you're still going to hit the ground.

It would be great if dealerships could sell common sense along with the sportbike that the 20 something Jane/Jonny bought that does 0-100 in 5 seconds but they dont. It's up to riders to take responsibility for their own actions and ride safely within the respective situation.

Your example regarding the Harley in '74' is a bad one. Harley rider was riding too fast for the situation. If he cared about his own life or more importantly the lives of others, when he saw the soccer mom in the station wagon he should have slowed. Instead he didn't and mom pulled out. Consequently while she did "violate his right of way" he killed two of her kids and himself in the process.

    RIP Torin Quiles

Boys, it's not the speed that kills, it's the sudden stop...and whomever caused that stop is to blame. Period.

I was riding with my 13 year old son on the back of my VMax a few months ago in the left lane of a four lane... I checked my mirrors, signaled right, turned my head and looked as far as I could over my right shoulder, started to (luckily) slowly merge then all of a sudden a f'ing G35 f'ing punk comes flying by me on my right, he had to jump up on the curb to miss me, still was within 2 feet or so....my point is I am careful (especially 2 up) and did not see that FUCKTARD coming in a cage because of his EXCESSIVE speed....
That was Jamie. He always drives like that.

R.I.P.!! Idk if its just me but it seems like clearwater is bad city to own/drive a motorcycle. I hear something about once/week when it comes to bikers going down out there.

This is my first post and most likely my last. I'm not a rider and don't plan on buying one. The reason I'm here is because I knew Torin personally. He's actually my sister's ex boyfriend and father to her beautiful daughter (my niece) Dalylah. This accident was due to carelessness by both parties. However the fact that the woman made in illegal turn in front of him makes it her fault, regardless of his speed. Whether you're going 30 or 100 it's impossible to avoid a car that illegally enters into your path. But I'm not here to argue about whose fault it was as they both were careless. But remember when you're riding or driving, your actions affect more than just you. Not only was Torin's life cut short but he leaves behind a beautiful 2 year old girl who now will never know her father. Please make every second you spend with your loved ones count. You never know when they may be taken away. Here's a picture of Torin with his daughter (my niece). Please understand that these tragedies affect far more than just the person who is killed.

    RIP rider.

Always ride like you're invisible and assume nobody is going to see you....especially at 2am. It's difficult to judge the distance of an oncoming bike in the dark....and a high rate of speed doesn't help. Still, hopefully the woman is held accountable and people will learn from this.

I live off keen rd, not too far from 60 / gulf 2 bay.
Man do we hear sportbikes flying sometimes late night.
Sometimes young riders in their 20's don't make it to their 30's & 40's
Ripping a burst of 70-100mph in 30 to 45 zones is suicidal in city streets.
A car can come out of so many places.

To say it's the drivers fault no matter what, when a motorcycle is doubling the speed limit
, that's bullshit. Are drivers suposed to see someone coming when their doing 100?
No you can't. Their going so fast, they came out of nowhere.
Speed limits for the most part do a good job regulating reaction times & safety.
Speeding reduces sight, & reaction times for the speeder & others.

I agree with most speed limits.
I don't agree with cops finding places to write easy tickets.
15mph zones like the end of dunedin causeway is a recent bs trap I've observed.

I saw a chick on a sportster today flying down gulf 2 bay in the fn slow lane.
I cringed looking back in my mirror, knowing that someone could pull out from so many stores, streets, fast food joints, etc...
Pinellas is no place to speed.
