  1. Holy CRAAAAAAAP! Anyone tired to get a tire mounted lately?

I was floored at were this saga has gone. Not to long ago it was just slightly troublesome to get a tire mounted. Recently i needed to call around for some pricing and was absolutely floored with the things i'm being told now.

Keep in mind this is a dismount of one set and remount on another set....same tires but different rim sets. Already pulled off the bike with no rotors on them.

Cycle Gear........Apparently they no longer put on tires that aren't brand new.....WTF? BTW, mine have like 50 miles on them, if that much.

Xtreme Honda......They want 65 bucks per tire! Are you effing serious?

Barney's.........Was told it is 85 bucks per tire!

This sxxx is effing insane!!!!!!! Not to long ago it used to be 15 bucks a tire. WTF happened to this world and what am i missing??? Nobody in their right mind can possibly think it is anywhere in the general proximity of reasonable to think to charge anything over 15. Hell, a freaking mount and balance on a car/truck rim is like 8 bucks....and that's to pull them off the vehicle too. There is no extra work involved with doing a standard bike tire. Matter of fact on most it would be much less weight to try to carry around thus less chances of getting physically hurt during the course of the work. And yes, many tire "techs" have or will develop bad back and knee problems. As is the nature of carrying around and lifting heavy odd shaped rims/tires day in and day out for most of the day.

PA does 15 a tire but you live a bit away from there... I found a little place around the corner from me that does tires. I just went up to the guy and offered him 20 cash to do it and he accepted.

THIS is why I bought a tire mounting gimmick at Harbor Freight. Mike was the only one that would talk to me and he prefers to have the tire bought from him. I get that. The OEM shops are just lost. They have been dealing with the average joe that actually pays these insane prices for something that takes 10 mins for both wheels. My tire changer works fine. I'm into it for 110 bucks and it works fine. They also have a old style balancer for 69.00 thats next. Swapping out track tires is a problem I anticipate so screw them.

Not to thread-jack, but auto places are doing the same sh*t. It's near impossible to get tires mounted that are either 1) used, or 2) not original equipment.

    Go to PA man...

  7. I've got a guy that will do it on a professional machine for free but the drive is nearly an hour. Don't wanna dick up some fresh PC so doing it manually is not an option for me. Didn't figure this would be such a hassle getting someone to do some honest work for some honest pay.

Go look into a oil change at a OE dealer. lol Now that is funny. I could do my oil 3 times for what they want. Just thier way of making up for fewer sales. Rip everyone off on the services.

yeah we mount and balance at no charge if you buy from us.
we will swap them as long as they are in good condition for $15 a tire (I have turn people away who wanted to mount a tire that should never be on the road)

Harbor Freight is OK, but if you want to spend a little more, the one below works great...

Hang on to your socks guys and gals. It will probably get worse before it gets better. If you have a shop that treats you right, stick with them and keep them in business and spread the word. This way they will be there for you when you need them. This same situation with changing tires goes for dirt bike tires too.

Oh goodness no. I was had to try to find other places to be able to fit me in because i have some pressing business to take care of and was supposed to go out of town today with plans to be out for a while. Hence the reason for trying to get things handled before hand. Turns out things were pushed back til friday. Will PM you.

  19. BTW, for those that care i'm so pissed off about this whole situation that i'm now on the hunt for some nice professional machines to handle the mount and balance. Should i be able to find something for a reasonable price i'll let everyone know. Would be glad to take care of the TSB family.

They need some government regulation on this facking tire places!!! lol

I think it probably has to do with the insurance and lawyers. After all that crap with the suvs flipping with the firestone tires.
