Motorcycle and Vehicle colide on 580 Sunday

I drove by this one on sunday afternoon, the car was demolished in the front. This was right by Countryside Blvd and 580. My route home from work every day.

    Quote from SPtimes:
"CLEARWATER - A motorcyclist and his passenger were hospitalized Sunday after a collision with a car that threw them 100 feet on State Road 580.

The westbound motorcycle collided with an eastbound Mercedes-Benz driven by John Filerino, 81, who was turning into his neighborhood.

The motorcycle riders were taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. The driver of the 2006 Suzuki, Steven A. Craft, 36, wasn't wearing a helmet, Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor said. His passenger, Mary Dyerly, 32, was.

On Sunday night, she was in satisfactory condition and Craft was in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said. Filerino wasn't hurt.

Craft and Dyerly were stopped at SR 580 and Countryside Boulevard. When the light turned green, Craft took off, popping a wheelie. At the same time, Filerino was turning left.

No charges were filed Sunday night, though they may be later, Shelor said."

The driver probably was cited for failure to yield the right of way, but the St. Pete times won't tell you that.

There is no doubt that the vehicle was at fault, I see this everyday, the cars try to beat the traffic on the left turn. No helmet, wheelies, and a passenger. Perhaps He was not wearing the helmet, because he only had one, who knows.....

....your dead and they just say "he came up so quick....I never saw him" Then they walk with a failure to yield ticket.

I hope that they are both ok and a Speedy Recovery....But we can all learn from this....

First He had no Helmet...Big NO NO
Second He did a wheelie from a stop light granted the car should have seen him at first at the stop but keep in mind when you do a wheelie your headlight is pointing Upwards making it hard for the cager to see you unless you have lights on your underside.
Third, He did this at an intersection and all of you who have taken the MSF course know that almost every Motorcycle accident happens at Intersections.

I know it seems that I am pointing at the rider but iam just pointing out his faults so that we all can learn from this I do hope they both get well soon. Just be careful out there and be SMART!!!!

He probably did not even look for the bike, just saw traffic at the light, and went.

Like I said I make this exact run every day, and I try to keep a vehicle or two on my left side between countryside blvd and US19. I use the traffic as cover, so if they try to beat the traffic, they have to hit the cars to my left before they get to me.

    Something doesn't add up...

Side note: two-up riding makes wheelies way more likely with all the extra weight toward the back of the bike. Maybe the wheelie was unintentional?

    Cool

These bike wrecks are out of control! True we don't know the entire situation but what we do know sure does make this guy sound like a moron, not to mention lucky that girl didn't die, his ass would be in the lockdown ward, facing manslaughter.
    Oh well-my condolances anyway.

Does anyone here know the rider (Steven A. Craft), his passenger (Mary Dyerly) or their families? I was there and have his sunglasses. I posted this up on myspace blog with clean pictures.

Seriously this wearing no gear with all the deaths you would think they would have stricter laws in Flordia due to all the deaths. Just me personally dont hate me for saying this because I dont live there... YET but a law needs to be passed that all riders and passengers where a helmet. Up here I see kids riding with their father with no helmet. Really pisses me off. And if I do see helmets on passenger the rider doesnt.

My prayers are with the families
