View Full Version : Clutch Lever
The clutch on my bike seems to have too much play in it. I read the manual which mind as well be in Japanese... and it seems to say that there are two ways to adjust it... there is a little dial on the cable that is coming from the lever itself... I turned that some and didn't see any difference so I stopped before I messed something up.
It also says that there is something down by the shifter??? At that point I felt a little confused and didn't start playing with things.
The bike is a 2001 R6. If anyone can tell me how to adjust the clutch lever/cable in plain English that would be awesome. Thanks!

Yep..the one on the clutch is a smaller adjustment. you want to unscrew it(make it move away from the clutch lever) you may have been moving it the wrong way. The adjuster down below is for bigger adjustments..I wouldn't mess with it until you try the top one(on the clutch lever) first.
Let me know if you need some pics or more help.
I'll try it again... there seems to be a bit of play, and I don't think that that little screw is going to make enough difference. I would guess that there is between a 1/2 - 1 inch (at the very end of the lever) of free play before the clutch catches...
THIS IS NOT A PIC OF MY BIKE, I JUST MADE IT FOR EXAMPLE

It is pretty close to accurate. It just seems like a bit too much free play.

That is exactly what that screw is for.
Loosen the the large part that kind of looks like a wwasher. then back out the threaded tube till you have as much or little play as you want.
Then retighten the "washer"
If there is not enough to back out then you need to put it all the way back in and make an adjustment at the other end of the cable. Sometimes you will still need to adjust the top side to. if you need to make that much of an adjustment you may want to have you clutch plates looked at. It may be time for a replacement.
The bike has less than 2000 miles on it and shifts beautifully... I'll try to adjust it again. Maybe I misunderstood the use of that little dial.
Thanks, I'll let you know how it comes out.
