Any experts here.......

......Picking up a new but scratched up table to go near the pool table. Didn't wanna fork out top dollar but wanted something nice so I'm picking it up.....Then look to clean it up.

Question would be process used to clean it up-remove imperfections and re-finish? Products-vendors?

One day I'll get the area ready for some M.N.F. so I can serve ya'll some azzwhipping!

Remove the old finish by sanding it or using a paint thinner if its painted on. Use a course sandpaper(120 grit) for big imperfections or soft grain (220 grit) for touching up.

Go slow and with the grain of the wood.

If its oak or mahogany you will need a grain filler....It comes in a paste of different colors and is used to fill in the gaps made by sanding.

Next use sanding sealer which will allow the stain to absorb evenly

choose your stain (oil based, water based, gel) waterbase is best because it only take a damp cloth to finish up with cleaning with and oil based is highly flammable

If you want a nice solid finish use polyurethane after the stain has dried

So you will need:

Gloves and a mask that covers mouth and nose)

120 and 220 grain sand paper (depending on how far your going to sand it)
grain filler (if its oak or mahagony only)
Sanding sealer (if you want an even absorbtions-no light and dark spots)
stain (a large variety of colors available just check the chart at Home Depot or Lowes)
and Polyurethane (helps stop water spots and mess marks)

Hope this helps
