View Full Version : Where to buy gear in Tampa

Well I finally picked up my bike on Saturday. :)

It's a 1997 YZF600R - a little older than I wanted but they haven't changed the bike since 1997 so I'm happy with it.

Now I need to purchase some gear.

First I'll need a couple of helmets.

Anyplace in the Tampa area I should look first?

I've not decided which brand to buy but the Scoprions are getting good reviews and the price is right ($200)

Thanks!

There's a Barney's on the St. Pete side of Gandy and another one on Adamo in Brandon. (correct me if I'm wrong on the location - I've only been to the one in Brandon once)

I picked up mine online since stores don't carry many XS helmets and I had a hard time finding one I liked that matched my gear.

The MRA shop on 38th Street had some great gear for reallly cheap..(Helmets from 59.99 to WOW thats expensive) HJC, SHOEI, blah blah blah

Cycle Gear on Fletcher has great gear and prices and 10% military discount (sweeet) all the gear and they have bike accessories so you can get broke in there quick.

But I have to tell you for deals you just can't beat online shopping...Usually 20 to 50% cheaper online.

Ohh and congratulations on the bike. Its ok if it's older, that way if (god forbids) something happens it won't hurt the pockets that much

I've had great luck with them. Barney's in St. Pete has a decent selection at times, but they will list it all at full price. I know someone who asked if they would price match internet pricing and they were willing to cut the price considerably. Congratulation on the new ride and good luck with your shopping.

A lot of people on here know how I feel about Brandon Barney's but the one good thing is that they will price match.

Dave check out our site sponsor, they will do a good job of matching other prices online, and if he has it in stock, you can pretty much have it in a few days. I bought Cruzergrl a jacket from him, and it was here in no time, good price and great service..

Just click on the link on the home page of the site......

Not sure if you wanted just Tampa or Tampa area. I live very close to the Barney's on Gandy, but they are priced the same as Brandon I think. They are high. CycleGear also has a new store on US 19 in St. Petersburg near the intersection of Park Blvd. Decent prices in there and they send out flyers every so often for sales if you're on the mailing list.

I also ordered recently from SuperBikeSupply. They were $10 cheaper than anyone else online for my windshield.

Hope that helps.

Funny thing is that I ordered from KneeDraggers.com first. Never got a confirmation email or anything, so I thought the order didn't go through. Then I found this site and hence the link to SuperBikeSupply. Same windshield was $10 cheaper than KneeDraggers, so I ordered from them. Damned if both didn't show up. I emailed both of them to see if I could return one without getting jacked for 20% restock fee. KneeDraggers took over a week to respond, one day for SuperBikeSupply. They both said they would give me credit, so I returned to KneeDraggers since it was more expensive.

But I emailed SuperBikeSupply and told them this same story and that I would know better to buy from them next time. And yes, I plugged TampaSportBikes since I told them that's how I find them. :)

I agree this both here!

New enough is good, but if you just can't wait......then get your quote fro m new enought and ask Barney's to match it.......Based on one purchase I've made it seems as if they'll crack your head if you allow it, don't act as if you need it now and see what they will do.

Give the sponsor here a shot.......we need to start getting a feel for them and their deals, maybe they'll be willing to look out for you since the relationship here is new!

Go to www.throttletwisters.com for the address to the shop. Ask for Zak, he is the owner and just tell him Mercedes sent you.
