The pickup truck in front of me slowed down, I slowed down. The pickup truck put it into reverse...
I sat there and listened to the *crunch* of my fairing and front fork. The guy says he'd rather pay for it himself than involve the insurance, although he gave me his insurance info; but I'm without a bike for at least a coupla weeks--the St. Pete Barney's says they won't even have an estimate 'til the end of the week.
Anybody know where I can rent a bike for half a month?

Gah. I'd rather pedal, thanks.
Sure there's nothing else? Maybe a nice li'l Daytona 675 for a while?
good luck finding a Sportbike rental spot....I can never find one...just Harleys.

IMO. Take that estimate and get the money from the guy then go to e-bay get the parts and fix it yourself for less that half the cost.
But to answer your question I don't know any place that rents sports bikes.

Unfortunately I have no mechanical aptitude or place to work on it; although the prospect of getting a little further out of debt is sure attractive.

make him or his insurance company pay for a rental car like any other accident? or are you just looking for a bike to ride for a couple of weeks?

I have a decent shop in the making, I'd be glad to help you out (as long as it's not a Honda) and I work for beer...............

Green, I've got a car; I just don't like paying for a new gallon of gas every 15 miles instead of every 45; plus accelerating from 0-60 in a lethargic 5 seconds instead of 3.6.
And Jarhead; very attractive offer. I'd certainly trust another former Marine to put my SV650s back in the right shape--but you're 40 miles away from me and the St. Pete Barney's where my bike is now. The logistics of getting it to your shop and getting the parts there might prove prohibitive (although I'd certainly love to get it fixed for parts and a 12 pack of Delerium Tremens).

we've got a trailer to haul it up there on if you want.

Let me know what needs to be repaired when you get the info from Barney's If I can fix it I'm sure we can get it here.

From the sounds of what you said it shouldn't be difficult and I'd rather help some learn to wrench on their bike then see them pay Barney’s to do it.
a69tarbaby baby knows when my house is. If she don’t mind helping you get it here and you can get the parts I’ll help you out.

Thanks for the offers--if the guy who hit me'll just write me a check once I get the estimate from Barney's, and given the estimate of the damage you think your shop'll be able to handle it easily, Jarhead, I'll very gratefully take both you and a69tarbaby up on your offers.

sounds good. any idea from the looks of it what the damage is? Is it ridable?

I would walk a flat tire past Barney's before giving them a dime of my money; but that's my beef. Aside from ebay, there may be other sources within tsb for parts and it may be less expensive than the "insurance quote" you're getting ;)
i remember where you live and its no problemo.
Yep, the Jarhead can fix you up..

Sounds like you have done this before, I can get a hold of a truck from my bro, all you have to do is pay for his gas. I also have some tools and very little experience if you need some help. I work for rum though.:occasion1

No insurance involved but when The_B!tch put her bike down it wasn't in real good shape. What would have cost close to 3K i fixed for well under 1k including the paint (came in today bike will be painted soon). I basically replaces everthing on the front end sort of the rim, down tubes, and triple tree.
Kahfra, these guys can fix you up! don't give Barney's the chance to piss you off....

Front fork bent, radiator bent, fender and cowling broken (including the headlights inside the cowling). I don't have a very good picture showing the damage, but here's the one I took with my phone right after the crash: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/khafra/IMAGE_00108.jpg

Parts for a SV will be a little harder to find on E-Bay since the SV is not as popular, but they may still be out there. There other places that you can find parts cheeper than Barney's. mrcycles.com sells OEM parts at a good price.

Good site--that's much cheaper than bikebandit.com, the only other one I know of with a parts finder like that. I hope they give me a good itemized list with the estimate so I don't have to guess which parts to buy, though.

for an "insurance quote" they better give you the full list.

Take it from me, SV parts are not easy to find. I finally found rims for mine. At a whopping 350.00.:cryingeye But at least they came with tires.:bump:

Hrm--maybe I should bribe the Barney's mechanic to declare it totalled, and go deep into debt to get a Daytona 675.
But probably not, mrcycles.com seems to have the stuff.

Sorry for the delay--Barney's finally finished the estimate, and I took off everything that wasn't damaged in the crash 'cause their estimate would've totalled the bike. But the guy who backed into me says he's sending a check, and I've got my shopping list almost figured out from the fuzzy fax Barney's sent:
FENDER, FRONT (YELLOW) 53111-16G10-YU9 $86.65
COWLING, BODY (YELLOW) 94401-17G00-YU9 $244.49
BALANCER SET 56200-16830 $23.92
Aftermarket front turn signals from cyclegear or whoever $30
DAMPER ASSY, FRONT FORK RH 51103-17G50 $342.91
DAMPER ASSY, FRONT FORK LH 51104-17G50 $342.91
Caliper Assy, Front rh? 59100-33D90-999 $122.75 (59300-33D90-999, as listed in estimate, is front lh)
Lever Assy Gear? 23600-17666? $67.25?
HUT 6MM STUD? 06310-00067? $1.25?
Gear Shaft Rod? 15525-19F00? $7.00?
WOT? 09140-06025? $1.25?
Radiator Assy, Water 17710-17G30 $347.95
HOSE, RADIATOR INLET 17851-17G00 $14.67
All that's from mrcycles.com; except some of the the ? marked items and the turn signals. I wanted to post it here for a sanity check before I order 'em, but I'm ready for that proffered help with the moving it and fixing it--thanks again for the offers

What was the Barny's quote?
Nothing looks to hard. Hell just use the pics for MR. cycle and put it back together.
What year is it again I'll see if I can download a service manual.

Barney's told me it'd be $5600--and the bike's only worth $4475. Taking off everything except what's on that list got me down to $3300.
It's a 2004 SV650 S; the manual's at http://sv650.org/sv_manuals.htm
There's things I'm not sure about, like whether I need a rear axle replacement (Barney's said so, but that obviously wasn't damaged in the crash) and whether I need a front lh caliper or a front rh caliper. Aside from that, though, it doesn't look problematic in my uneducated view.

Final update: I got $3500 from the guy that hit me, which was what Barney's would've charged with the Suzuki part prices plus labor. I got the parts for a total of $1700 and with The_Jarhead's work I've got a new fairing, headlights, fender, radiator, and $1800 less credit card debt :biker:
