Hello Peeps.
Returned yesterday from my weekend @ the races.
Had a great time. Kim & I stayed @ the Chauteau Elan. An awesome resort with its own vineyard & winery. So happens, many of the Suzuki people sponsoring the event were also staying there including Ms. Suzuki & I even saw one of the racers also.
The races were awesome. On Saturday, I got to see around 225 GSXR & Busa owners take two laps around the track. I wish I could have brought my bikes to do that. Also ride in the GA hills. The track was challenging with hills & a few advanced set of twisties.
One of the better races was with Honda's Duhamel & another Honda(98). They kept changing between 1st & 2nd place until the last lap when 98 lost it in turn one allowing Duhamel to win. Also seeing Miladin win his 6th Superbike title rocked. On Sunday, he started 21st ending up in 5th I believe. what a comeback. He only needed to race, since he had it in the bag by points.
The pit area is always fun. I got to see Miladin's Gixxer at arms reach. They brought it out & fired it up for last minute testing. They ran it on the stands as they tweaked it. Got awesome video of that as I was standing directly behind it as it ran on the stands. Amazing the equipment difference between his bike & a standard GSXR. Made my new 05 look outdated. Plenty of bikes everywhere & action. Not to mention the fine team ladies.
Got to see my favorite mechanic for Ducati.
Imagine a guy with a hairstyle just like Marvel's Wolverine. Beard and all. But he colors the spikes on his head either Italian colors or all red one day. Including his beard. This year, he had the Ying-Yang sign bleached in the back of his head. Wears some cool gear also. I swear early this year @ Daytona I took more pictures of his head than the races.
The highlight for me however, was this large solid banner I saw on Saturday that had Miladin on my Gixxer laying it in a corner. It said Suzuki 20th Anniv. Road Atlanta. I said,"come Sunday after the final race that joker is mine." Sure-enuff, I was unmounting it after the race. I tried like hell to get close to Miladin for a signature on my new sign. No luck. Got plenty of other groupie stuff also. I'll be lining my garage soon.
Overall, I have to say Suzuki took care of its GSXR & Busa owners. Free tickets for both days. Special tents with televisions, food, beverages, sun tan lotion, laps on the track for the loyal owners, the works. They thought of it all. They went out of the way.
Looking forward to next season. I'll be riding to Daytona again fo-sure.
