Bartender knowledge needed!!

I know there are a couple folks here that tend bar in the area. We're having a big shindig at my place this weekend to break in my new custom built 8 foot bar and I have a couple bartending questions. Mostly just about some basic drink stuff. My buddy used to bar tend years ago so I'm sure he'll be hanging out mixing drinks so I want to make sure I have all the stuff I need. The bar is pretty much setup.

-What kind of mixers are a must have? I know orange juice, lime juice and grenadine. ANything else I should make sure I have on hand.

-What about garnishes / fruit? Oranges and cherrys?

I've got the basic bar stuff covered. Mounted bottle openers, a set of shakers, bar straining mat, jigger, strainer, garnish bins, straws, etc. Any other must haves?

I'm looking to make hurricanes and have got a recipe I found online. I'm also going to be making my famous mudslides. Are there any other good party drinks I should consider adding to my list? I don't have a cocktail book yet.

Thanks for any advice. If I had the money in the budget I would have hired somebody to come bar tend for a couple hours but we spent too much money making the bar!!

LOL!! I bet you would. I'll probably have a more "open" party in a few months but this is party is for some close friends.

I asked lone wolf she said....sour mix, cranberry juice sodas of different types, pineapple juice. Drinks Mai tai, long island ice tea, daquir mix or strawberry purée or rum then a dash of lime juice. How fancy of drinks do you want
to make??

Sodas I got covered. Didn't think about the cranberry or pineapple juice.

I'm planning on doing Hurricanes and just want to make sure I have enough other stuff for the guy making drinks. I'm sure we'll make all the tropcial stuff like Margaritas, Rum Runners, etc but I don't know.

I'll be slamming my Sailor Jerry and coke and doing shots of Habu Saki

Mix a long Island, Red Death, and Alabama Slammer.......its delicious but a little potent.

Orange Gatorade for the ladies - Bacardi o, triple sec, sour, oj, and red bull

Key west rootbeer for the guys - Jager, Root Beer Schnaps, and diet coke

All around Top Margherita - 1.5 oz cuervo gold/patron, 1oz grand marnier, sour, splash oj

501 Must Drink Cocktails is a really good drink book if you want to try new recipes. it breaks them down by category of alcohol, so you can always figure out what you need or what you can make with what you have that way.

Just got home from Sweatbay and the liquor store. Trying out a couple of Hurricane variations.

Next up is some Margarita tests. Might have to call in sick tomorrow!!

Sounds like you've got the basics down already guys and seriously there are sooooo many drinks and shots out there it would take a whole thread just for that.
Top drinks are gonna be ure martini's, margarita's, manhattans, Long islands, sex on the beach, rum runners, tequila sunrise (Sunset), white russians, cosmos, bloody mary's, lotta single liquor cocktails.
Bottle beer, white-red wine.
Basic soda's, sour, oj, cran, pineapple, gfruit,red bull, lime juice, grenadine.
Olives, cherries, limes, lemons, celery, sugar, salt.

I've got some specialty drinks I can't divulge but a killer sangria is a home run.

1oz. red wine, 3/4 oz flavored vodka (re choice), 3/4 oz simple syrup (sugar water), pineapple, cranberry. Shake and pour with lime,lemon,oj slice squeezed in!!!

It's a pretty good idea if u don't want people drinking and pouring their own drinks, or getting stuck behind the bar ureself.
I do private parties if and when u ever need me, have 15 yrs experience so there's not much I can't handle.

nice bar set up! looks great. for your next party, if no one on here is available, you could probably call American Bartening School (there's one in downtown Tampa) and they may be able to hook you up with a bartender.

We actually have a few here on TSB.
Can't speak for the others but I Love doing the private parties, especially for friends or and/or TSB folk. =)
I went through american in 06 I believe, great school.
