I was talking with a guy in my neighborhood last night who just got 2 ’06 Gixxer 600s for he and his wife. Yes that’s right another WC sport bike owners.
Anyway I was trying to get him to come out to the meet to morrow and he was he didn’t think he would make cause he is new rider (3 months) and has never ridden 2 up. Um ok but you have 2 bikes. “Well one bike isn’t running right now.”

It seams he dropped the bike in the driveway (every new rider does) well I guess it hit pretty hard and slid down the driveway, and the Stator cover cracked.
But get this; He is having problems getting a new one. Hard to find after-market because there isn’t much out there for a ’06 yet. The dealer told him it’s on back order because “so many people need them”

WTF – why would so many people need new stator covers? He heard there is a “possible problem” with the kickstands and there maybe a recall.

Anyone else here of this?

I know MianoSM is having problem with the fact that they don’t use Lock-tight on enough things and he has bolts vibrating loose, but this is the first I’ve heard of this.

Sounds like a lot of riders drop their '06 GSX's?
So, do you think it's because of the kickstand, or is that just coincidence?

Actually i have noticed that the kickstand moves way to freely. One time when i was doing a kickstand pivot on SNAP's bike the kickstand gave out and the bike almost fell on top of me, luckly i cought it and was able to right it before it crushed me. I have never had this problem with any other bike i have no clue as to why it did it other than the kickstand doesnt work the way it should.

Does he have a steep driveway? My '05 rolled forward off of the kick-stand when I had it parked on a down hill slope.

Well the dealer is the one who told him about the "possible problem".

I haven't been over to his house but the driveway must be fairly steep for the bike to fall over and then slide.

I have heard of this. I dont think it is so much of an issue with people fugging up their stator covers, as it is, when a new bike comes out, and there are a lot of new parts, they Manufacturer doesnt make a lot of these for spares. There isnt a huge inventory. I have seen this with oil pans....

No I understand that. Hence why he is havving problem finding and after market one.

I was more questioning the Kickstand thing.

Yeah I thought it sounded a little odd. So I told him I'd see if any one else heard about it (Yes I gave him a card).

If you see Moke ask him if he has any inside info on this.

I have had problems with my kickstand.....but it just seems looser then usual - I tightened it up...and haven't had too many problems.....

On gixxer.com everyone - including myself have been having the phantom FI problem though - every once in a while I'll turn on the bike - and it blinks FI at me, turn it off - and turn it back on, no FI.

Unfortunate thing this whole "new" model year thing going on.........

Haven't seen the kickstand or stator issue come up on gixxer.com yet though.

Tell him good luck for me. : )
