Is there any reason you can't use a K&N recharge kit for a BMC air filter? Or do you have to use the BMC recharge kit?

Whats in the kit? Is it just a cleaaner and oil treatment spray or something. I believe they are both a cotton based filter and not paper. Not sure though

both of them just a cleaner and oil
and yes both filters are cotton base not paper.
I doubt there would be any issue just wanna be sure.

why wouldn't they make a kit for their own filters.

You never know there could be the type of oil K&N uses clogging BMC. I doubt it and again I'm sure it's not a problem but better to double check then have a problem later.

I know Chad had done testing with both and prefers BMC to K&N so I figure he would know if there was any issues

I have used both for my BMC. I found that the K&N kit cleans better and allows better filtration, but you have to clean the filter more often. I have had zero problems using the K&N kit with the BMC race filter for the past two years.

One suggestion though; Use the aerosol spray oil, NOT the bottled oil from K&N. Too easy to over oil with the bottled and the spray gets more even coats.

Hope that helps.

the question was more directed towards the oil then cleaner since both the BMC and K&N say any mild detergent can be used.

Yeah, thats what I'm sayin. The K&N cleaner cleans better than the BMC cleaner AND the K&N oil works better than the BMC. But using the K&N oil means you might have to clean the filter more often. Also, I have had no problems using the K&N products on my BMC filter.

yea, the bottled K&N oil will always over oil your filter...the spray works much nicer.
I had to wait several days for my bottle oil application to drip all the excess oil off.
I have both BMC and K&N filter..looks like it will work and from what Noleman said there is proof that it does.

go for it.

not true at all

you over oil the filter
the oil will sit there all day and not do anything

the aerosol just makes it easier

true.
but when I did mine, it was terrible...red dye everywhere...
but I found that I can take the spray top off the cleaner bottle and stick it on the oil bottle to make it a spray bottle (after cleaning the cleaner out first of course)

Sorry, I"ve been out all day today.

It doesn't matter which one you use. The filter material is the same for both. I like the K&N cleaner the best. I prefer aerosol spray for light and even oiling. I don't really like K&N or BMC on bikes with Ti valves, unless it actually improves power. Ti valves are more sensitive to dirty air, and both let a little bit of dirt on by. And they don't increase power on all bikes. I like BMC's rigid plastic frame over K&N's rubber frame, which cane flex and change airflow. K&N filters slightly better because it has slightly more cotton in it.
