The reasons why motorcyclists don’t buy insurance - BUT SHOULD
By the Law Firm of Czaia & Gallagher P.A., Rights for Bikers.com, and C J. Czaia, owner/rider of teamhurtbyaccident.com – Moto ST Racing Team

With gas prices these days, it’s no wonder why more motorists have decided to start riding gas saving motorcycles. Even with the increased motorcycle traffic on the highway, the law does not require motorcycle riders to obtain insurance as long as the rider wears a helmet. Everywhere you look today, motorcycle riders are cruising along , wearing their helmets (or not) but with not much else in the way of safety gear and of course NO INSURANCE.
Most riders that have been involved in a motorcycle accident don’t walk away unscathed. Although it has been documented that a helmet decreases the risk of a fatal head injury, but it is not guaranteed. Therefore it is important for riders to wear the proper safety gear, use defensive driving techniques, AND insure themselves in an adequate amount of coverage for medical expenses when an accident occurs.
There are many reasons why motorcycle riders don’t buy insurance. Many say that since it is not required if you wear a helmet, then why bother. Also the insurance for motorcyclists may seem expensive, much more expensive than buying a helmet. Experienced riders often feel they can avoid accidents with their superior driving skills so don’t need insurance. It’s not the motorcyclist that we worry about causing the accident; it’s the uniformed and unaware large vehicle driver that frightens us.
It appears likely that no matter how safe you drive your bike, one day you WILL be involved in an accident. Many automobile drivers that have struck motorcycles often say they didn’t see them until it was too late. Driving your motorcycle in a way that makes it easier for the automobile drivers to see you is an important key to motorcycle safety.
Our law firm handled a motorcyclist case about two years ago where the rider was wearing a helmet when hit by a vehicle. His medical bills were massive, but he was lucky that the driver at fault had insurance. We were able to get him a $5.6 million verdict. If the person that hit him has been one of over a million people in Florida who drive without insurance, that motorcyclist would have faced bankruptcy. GIVE YOURSELF THE BEST CHANCE FOR FINANCIAL PROTECTION. – Investigate the purchase of uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance coverage to protect yourself against those who won’t watch out for you.
