The high-flying, two-wheel action of supercross under the lights returns to Daytona International Speedway for the Daytona Supercross by Honda. The best dirt riders in the country including circuit regulars Chad Reed and Kevin Windham make their only stop in 2008 in the state of Florida when the visit the “World Center of Racing” to take on one of the toughest courses on the circuit.
Following are some numbers about the Daytona Supercross by Honda dirt course being designed by Ricky Carmichael, hailed by some as the greatest motocross racer of all time. The course is being constructed by Mark Barnett, former Supercross Champion and three-time National Champion.
8 Number of people working on the dirt to construct the track
4 Number of tractors working to spread dirt (1 loader, 1 crawler, 2 skid steers)
40 Jumps on the track (including at least 2 triples)
150 Number of dump trucks of dirt to build the course which is located on the infield tri-oval
400 Number of man-hours to build the course
450 Number of 2 x 9 Styrofoam blocks which will be used for safety along the course
2,150 Mileage (in feet) of the Supercross course from start to finish
50,000 Tons of dirt to build the track
