We've been thinking of hosting a skills and safety day. What we are thinking is this: skills training and practice outside with MSF (riding safety) instructors and inside we'll have EMTs / paramedics giving us some first aide training. We've got the location facility and LargoPD will donate use of the cones.

However, we need some help from MSF (riding safety) instructors AND first responders, specifically EMTs and/or paramedics to make this happen. If you are one and want to participate, please post up or send me a PM.

Please do not post that you want to attend, this is only a call for the First Responders and MSF Instructors.
Thanks in advance!

Riding Instructors: 1 maybe
First Aide Instructors: 1 + 1 maybe

Let's keep this on topic please. I feel what Donna is trying to do is very important. This is why I am asking please keep on topic. If you wish to joke around we have a section for that. Start a post and have fun. Anything off topic will be removed from here. This could be something that will save your life someday.

Thanks LB!
If we can learn even just one thing, I think its worth while.
If we can host a non-memorial event, then I'd be really happy!!!

here's the deal...

I never got the chance to do my "formal" MSF training and get certified. That training is a week long course that you take where they test your knowledge of the coursework and your coaching ability. However, I've helped run countless classes and know the excercises, course layout, and coaching inside out. The guy I worked for thought it was important for me to be fully trained before I went to get certified...so basically, I'm not an "official" instructor, but worked as a range hand for so long that I might as well be.

I haven't had time to go back and work for him lately, which sucks...so I havent gotten certified. That's probably a good thing, because I doubt they would have wanted me conducting a course (no matter how informal) without the proper approval from the MSF.

As long as anybody that's willing to participate signs a waiver (I'm too broke to be sued :nono: ), I'd be willing to coach the class. I still have my range book and all my classroom materials.

My work schedule is pretty hectic; if you can give me some details well in advance, I'll make sure that I'm off on whatever days necessary to lend a hand.

To avoid any issues...when it's time for people to sign up...I wouldn't really mention or involve the fact that there will be any "MSF" involvement. Just count me in as some guy who knows some stuff and wouldnt mind lending a hand :occasion1 I just don't wanna get into trouble with that...they're pretty strict.

I should've stated it up front...
This will NOT be an MSF or Red Cross class for ANY type of certification.

This is just an "organized" day for skills training/practice and some first aide training. Some of these skills can help us from going down. I know that some of us have been with those that have crashed and regretted not knowing critical life saving skills that could be performed until FR could arrive. Please realize that sometimes all the skills in the world still can't help the downed rider. But at least we won't second guess ourselves and play the "what if" game as much.

If someone wants to attend those things for certification, that's great.. but we're trying to put this together for the members at very little or no cost.

Khalis, any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Just keep me posted and I'll do what I can to help.

The hardest part will be setting up the courses without the lot being spraypainted or marked...but we should be able to figure SOMETHING out.

Just to let you know if we do this at the HCC over by Raymond James on a weekend they are not having MSF. They have the parking lot spray painted for thier MSF courses. Thats were Fictionnn taught me to ride. Might be something to look into

Just a thought!!

I just checked and HCC won't go for it due to liability issues. If an individual is there, that's just one person... and they're really not happy about that even. But this is a group event we're trying to organize and their security would run us off. Regardless, that wouldn't give us the indoor space for anything else or just to cool off or bathrooms.
We've got the Schiller campus free to use. The lot is marked for parking, but we do have the donated use of traffic cones, courtesy of LargoPD. We just need the members that are trained for this stuff.

Well how about sidewalk chalk. If khalis can get the dimensions that things are supposed to be from his materials or from the guy he worked for. Im sure we can get some stuff outlined and not worry about it staying there for good!!!

By the way I'm not EMT but I am certified through Red Cross to teach and certify others in First Aid and Safety for the Professional Rescuer if you need extra help!!!

The new subframe came in, so I'm going to Randy's to map out the paint for the 650. I'll see what he thinks about the instructing idea and look at the JGP calendar and we'll call you. I've also got Kahlis that offered and he has the m$f book with measurments, etc. I hope we can get this coordinated and a date picked asap!

Tarbaby-PM GSXRCandi, she teaches a sportbike course at the base. We are going to have her teach the GirlRiders, but we can't find a good location.
She got me on to the base to take the class, and WOW I learned a lot! Talk to her and see if its what you are looking for.

We gotta make sure we don't ride like some of the knucklehead boys out on the streets...trust me, I almost rode horrible b/c I was taught initially by someone that really didn't know it all but that's all I had...until I took the course that I now teach. Just kidding on the male bashing statement...Actually, the girls only thing was something for CJ & I to teach the girlriders & to more or less to practise on the talking portion of the class and then teaching the girls the manuevers. The course was written by a professional racer and a set of AF riders but is for street riding only...not track riding....

Donna, do you know the size of the area that we are looking to have the workshop?
Also what day and time are you looking at having the event? We are teaching on base on 4 Aug all day. The normal class is about 7 hrs to include a lunch hour and breaks

I'll have to ask if we can teach our class to those that are interested....since it is an AF only program (not a MSF course)....and it is not something that we can advertise for. It's helped my riding so very much.

We've got the classroom and parking lot space on campus. Since we're NOT doing certifications, we don't "have" to go through the whole book. Maybe something condensed to a few-hours in length, but still with enough meat to challenge us. Perhaps, you and Jahmic can compare notes and weed through both of your sets of material.
As with the others, you would simply be doing this as "Candi, a TSB member" and not as a professional instructor employeed by xx. Call me when you have a chance so we can discuss more.

Hey everyone i know i really dont know anyone but i just took the MSF Experience Riders Course like 2 months ago in NC on a military post. I remember everything like the back of my hand! If you need any extra help i would be glad to extend a hand. I know im not certified but i just had like 3 of my friends who were prospects and got pretty screwed up bc they tried to run with guys who were way higher in skills then they could handle.

I am also Combat Life Saver Qualified. So if there is anything i can do let me know send me a message.

Actually it is a good idea to have the groups mixed (atleast for the CPR and first aid portion). There are some techniques you will need to know based on a victims sex. That way if your riding with or happen to come across a person who crashes and needs help you can give the appropriate care.

Ideally, I'd like to get several "riding instructors" and "first aide instructors" to volunteer for this. This will allow us the flexibility to select a couple of common dates that fit with their schedules AND enough manpower to instruct and demonstrate techniques for the group. I have a feeling that we will have a good turnout for this, and I want to make sure we're covered.

Donna if you want I can cover some basic maint. stuff. Common bolt to check before, riding hoses, air preasure, oil, and so on.

These are thing that play a heavy roll in you ride and are often over looked.

+111111111111111111 on the egos.
we all know how to ride, but many don't practice (or know how to practice) their skills. i know that when i practice in parking lots, i've had other riders question what i'm doing. when i tell them i'm practicing or sharpening my skills, they ask how long i've been riding and get shocked with the answer because they think i'm practicing for my dmv test.

i think that if we all approach this with an open mind for learning and improving, i don't think our experience levels will matter "that" much.
